How to Improve Conversion Rates

Your Google Ad campaign is churning out LOADS of traffic to your site. The stats look good. There’s only one problem, though. All these visitors to your site? They’re not calling, they’re not buying. WHY?

Recently, Google Ads expert Pete Bowen published an excellent guide on how to fix this very problem. In his post ‘I’m Paying for Clicks, but I’m not Getting Enough Leads‘, Pete mentions 22 design principles that, when applied, can dramatically improve lead generation via your website. They are:

  1. Most people reject your site in seconds.
  2. Why does your landing page exist?
  3. Design the page to guide your visitor to the next step.
  4. Add extra calls to action to your site.
  5. Use the right words to convince your visitor to take the next step.
  6. Simplify your writing.
  7. Make the site look easy to use.
  8. Be conventional.
  9. Make your site look good on an iPhone.
  10. Use a big font.
  11. Use white space.
  12. Get rid of the background.
  13. Use white space.
  14. Use a light background.
  15. Use fewer (or no) pictures.
  16. Try a single column layout.
  17. Use useful headlines.
  18. Make your landing page fast.
  19. Don’t send visitors to your home page.
  20. Make your landing pages secure.
  21. Use contact forms, not click-to-email links.
  22. Your contact form is the weakest link.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll unpack some of these principles in a series of posts – taking a look at how to apply these principles to your website. What point is a beautiful website that doesn’t sell your product or bring you leads? You’re wasting piles of money on a website like this.
